How do you know you’re providing great windows and doors for Alberta homeowners? Your customers don’t stop with just a single project. Instead, they happily call on you to do additional work.

That’s what happened with Dana L. In 2022, GreenFox Windows & Doors installed a new exterior door on her local home.

We did a great job for her and her family. So when she needed help with a window replacement project and another exterior door two years later, we were at the very top of her call list.

This new project was more complicated than the first, but Dana knew she could count on us. And she was right. When we were done, she had some terrific new windows, as well as a second exterior door.

Dana’s First Door Replacement Project

Our work for Dana and her family began when she asked us to replace their front door. The door was original to the house and had done its job well for almost 70 years. However, its useful working life was over.

So, we removed the old door and installed a modern replacement outfitted with vertical glazing. Dana was pleased with the results. In fact, she was so delighted she kept us in her thoughts for future reference.

A New Window And Door Project For Her Alberta Home

Fast-forward to 2024, when Dana called us with a new, bigger project for her Alberta home. This time around, she needed both our window and door expertise.

Her goals? For starters, she wanted to replace her back door. But that wasn’t all.

To increase the amount of light entering her home, she wanted a transom window installed above the new door. She also wanted an additional window installed next to it.

Dana had one more item on her project checklist – the installation of a new egress window for her basement. Windows of this type provide a ready exit should access to a basement’s entry door be cut off.

“It wasn’t an easy install, as a header beam needed to be installed first to allow for the design. Our big concern was having the window match the exterior height of the windows along the side, and they managed to match them perfectly; one wouldn’t know the two windows were installed a decade apart. The design of the window was also built so that it matched the transom window above the door.”

Challenges To Dana’s Window And Door Installation

Even a straightforward door installation is trickier than it looks. That’s true because a perfect fit requires precise alignment along all three dimensions.

As it turned out, Dana’s window and door replacement project presented some additional challenges. Her main concern? Making sure the height of the transom and the new window matched that of an existing window on the adjoining wall.

She also needed a new header beam installed above the new door and windows. This step was required to compensate for the partial loss of a weight-bearing wall.

Tackling These Residential Remodeling Challenges

Pulling off a job like this might have been difficult for less experienced window and door contractors. However, for the specialists at GreenFox Windows & Doors, it was an opportunity to showcase our expertise and come through for our customer.

After removing Dana’s old door, we made the structural changes required to support the new installation. We then installed the new door and matching transom window, as well as the new adjoining window. Separately, we also installed Dana’s requested basement egress window.

When we were done, Dana inspected our work. What did she think?

To begin with, she praised us for precisely aligning the new full-size window with the nearby window on the adjacent wall. Though their installation dates were roughly 10 years apart, we “managed to match them perfectly.”

Dana also singled out the way the full-size window matched the transom window right next to it. What’s more, she praised the general appearance of her home’s redone rear entrance.

And don’t forget Dana’s brand-new egress window. She also expressed her appreciation for our work on this portion of the larger project.
